Last Saturday night and Sunday morning (97/8/7), I ate at a (Pal-u hang-yang) Buddhist monk's dining ceremony in So-myon. The organizer, Jay Oh, invited foreigners, so they could see how monks eat every night. Most of the Koreans there were experiencing this for the first time as well. The night started off with the monk, Shin-san, explaining to everyone how the evening's meal would proceed. Everyone there was nervous, including me, because the rules seemed so complex. I soon realized that this form of eating is in reality very simple, indeed. We then broke for about half an hour, and at around 11:30pm, we sat down to eat. We had a special way we were supposed to hold our bowls, a way to serve the food (in a buffet manner) and we were not supposed to make any noise, not even to hear ourselves chew, because this would take us out of the meditative state of mind. JFK

TRAVELS FROM NORTH AMERICA BACK TO SINGAPORE We got to the Burlington airport bright and early.  The security was confused about the Epsom Salts I had in my carry on (it was too heavy for my checked baggage, as I had to take ten pounds out, or pay 50$).   They scanned it 4 times, did a drug and bomb search on it, along with my Kindle and toothbrush, LOL.  I eventually got them through. When I checked in at JFK, Emirates  gave me a window seat, so I changed the JFK-DUBAI portion to an aisle seat, but they could not help me with the Dubai-Spore portion. The people sitting next to me are going to be annoyed with a huge guy taking up 1 and a 1/2 seats, LOL.  I had reserved them in the aisle in Sept., but looks like I got bumped, again, as did Carol.  Next time, cheapie Charlie airlines, all the way!! I was able to use my Korean Air Skymiles on the flight, which is good, because they never expire.  I checked my bag at JFK...

CEBU PART 1

We finally made it to Oslob, Cebu, Philippines. After an excellent trip to Halifax, Nova Scotia to see Brian, Mylene, Jacob, Allysia, and Matt, I flew to Toronto on WestJet to meet Carol for our Philippines Airline flight to Manila.  She took the train from Montreal, after spending time with Erin, Glenn, Norah, Leah, Jim (Dad) and Diane. The flight was uneventful, but at least they had movies.  I got stuck in a middle seat again.  Not great for the old back, but I think it was worse for the lady sitting next me to me in the aisle, as I woke her up or asked her to get by at least seven or eight times, LOL. After getting to the domestic airport at Manila, my pillow went missing.  The cleaners and security helped us look for it. One security guard found it.  We thought it had been stolen, but it was under a chair... Our flight from Manila to Cebu was upgraded to Premium Economy, so we got more food & drinks, as well as priority to get off the plane first....
