Moby’s Mealtime Reviews (1st)

Note from the present: "Man, where have the times gone?  Nearly 21 years ago a boy wrote some articles for The Expatriate (The Expat) Magazine.  21 years later, I'm back at it, with the Busan Beat. Let's enjoy this first blast from the past".

This is the first in a series of restaurant reviews that I am happy to be able to print. Read them and enjoy. Thanks, Mike, for a great job and a great service. In the reviews we use Mike’s scientifically validated rating system about which entire doctoral thesis have been written and assorted murders and suicides have been committed over.

The Rating System: 5* You MUST go there, it’s GREAT! 4* Delicious 3* The place serves it’s purpose. 2* HORRIBLE, don’t go. 1* ONLY IF YOU ENJOY PUKING!

This month’s target: NYX & NOX Restorbar Phone: 256-8000

NYX & NOX Restorbar is located near the Nampodong Subway station. While inside the station, turn left when you see the City Hall sign and exit the station. Once outside, turn left again, and look for the red "ENZO" sign on a one-way street with a cobble stoned sidewalk. Walk for about five minutes with the traffic, and look for a "Fila" shop on the left side. NYX & NOX is on the third floor of that building. "Catherinette Hush-Puppies" and "By Heartist" are clothing boutiques located across the street. Good Luck!

It was at "NYX & NOX Restorbar" where I had received the best service I’ve had since arriving in Pusan. The kind waiter spoke decent English and was extremely attentive. He gave my date and I an ice cream, service, i.e. on the house. The menu was bilingual, also. I would recommend this place based only on the service, but I’m not going to leave out the best part – the ambiance, or, of course, the food!

This place had two floors of comfortable couches and rocking chairs, with a phone at every table. "NYX & NOX" had several television screens (and even small wall televisions in the washrooms!). They were playing The Eagles and some MTV music videos. The music wasn’t too loud, either, which is nice when you want to hear yourself think, or your date talk. The food was great! For lunch the specials were W4500, with a non-drink style dessert included. Unfortunately, we were here for dinner. The spaghetti (W6000) was superb; the meat sauce was really chunky, enough to fill anyone. The hamburger steak (W10000) was too large for my partner to finish. It was a hamburger patty served under a brown gravy sauce, and it came with a salad and potatoes. The kimchi fried rice (also, available with seafood, beef, or omelet) ranged in price from W6000 – 7500. All of these meals included a drink style dessert (coffee, green tea, cola, or cidar). I know that these prices may be a tad expensive for some, but it’s really worth it.

"NYX & NOX" offered a variety of drinks, also. For those of us that love coffee, there were thirteen kinds of coffee, ranging from the House Brand, Brazilian, American, Colombian, Blue Mountain to Irish. Fresh squeezed grape, kiwi, strawberry, and banana juices are served, in addition. For the party animal in all of us, or for those of us with a taste for the finer things in life, several brands of beer, whiskey, wine, and cocktails are served.
