AFL GRAND FINAL GALA 2010
Funny thing happened TODAY. I went out into the backyard, and saw the head of a mouse. Turns out my cat left it there and ate the body. It's cat culture to leave the entire kill, or at least a portion of it for the master, namely me. I also had a great Triceps, back, calves, abs, and gluts workout this morning.
Turns out I didn't go out on THURSDAY NIGHT after all. I am committed to keeping in shape, and with the AFL Grand Final Gala and the Thursday night party only two days apart, I couldn't justify it. Anyways, my waistline is thanking me now.
SATURDAY
I skipped dinner on FRIDAY, in preparation for the five star hotel champagne buffet breakfast. It was pure Australian fare; oven baked tomatoes, beef and chicken sausages, an egg and juice station, hash browns, bacon, bread, fruit, baked beans, but for me, the cereal corner was the main treat. I had Raisin Bran and All Bran mixed together, and man, it was good. I don't normally eat good cereal, as it is overpriced in super-markets here. I also had about six or seven cups of strong Indo-coffee in preparation for the oncoming booze. I mean, it wasn't like I drank seven cups in a row mind you, it was more like; a beer, a coffee, a champagne, a coffee, a frozen margarita, a coffee... Anyways, the champagne was a nice touch. While drinking, I ate a lot of sausages, you know, to keep the protein to beer-carb ratio in check!! After a few beers (read five or six), I moved onto the frozen margaritas. Keep in mind that I had not been drunk in several months, so there were times I had to take lengthy breaks between sessions, otherwise I was running the risk of having to quit drinking at 9AM, (We arrived early). I have had a drink or two over the course of the past several months, but I haven't been hammered for a while. Carol, Sam, Aussie Dave and Indo Dave, Tari, Rob and Sue, Shane, Diane, Sarah, Rod, Harry, Helen, Helen's English friend, (who is an anti-terrorist cop in Yemen), all represented a variety of international alcoholics very well. They had a few professional players speak, who must suck, because they were in Jakarta, and not playing the in the Grand Final game in Melbourne. The game ended up being a 66-66 draw, so they'll play again next week. I guess the league is going to change the rules now about overtime, eh? At least I'll get to watch it again, but this time in BALI!!! After the game ended, there were a variety of live bands, door prizes given away, some raffle tickets for trips to Australia and stomach hair removal tools, plus an auctioning of AFL memorabilia, such as autographed shirts and player's shoes. Aussie meat pies were served for lunch, as well as more sausages, potato wedges (with the skins!!) and some sausage roles. We also had all you can drink red and white wine, which I made sure our table had enough of, because I grabbed four bottles of white for our table of 10, plus I had a few glasses of red to boot. By the end of the day, there were only two tables out of the 50 or so left drinking. They were my table and the table next to my table, which also consisted of teachers. As a matter of fact, they were teachers from Carol's school, too. They stopped serving booze at around 2PM, so Maori Shane and I walked around the event to take unopened bottles of wine and beer off of tables where people had left, and we also found a hug tub of ice with beer hidden in the corner that nobody had attacked, since it was in the corner. We emptied it and returned to our tables heroes; a happy day's hunting, I may add.
We then went to Eastern Promises (E.P.) for free beer, because it was their 25th anniversary. We also had dinner there. A funny thing happened there. Julie, a former teacher at AIS, who now works and lives in Jokjar (the cultural city) was there and had invited two friends from AIS.
