TOURS_BUSAN THE WHY
I moved to Busan, South Korea in August 2015 for the third time. I lived here from 1997-99 and in 2007. This time around though, many of my Taiwanese in-laws, and wife Carol's friends, came to visit. All they ever do is shop 'till they drop. Or they make these really tiring long trips across the city, spending several hours on the subway, just to see a tiny overpriced place, because it was recommended by a travel guidebook written in Taiwan. This, too me, isn't an enjoyable vacation. They all admitted to me that they wished they'd of booked a longer vacation, so they could see more. In the summer of 2017, while on vacation in Sri Lanka, Carol and I made three videos, one in Mandarin Chinese, one in very simple Korean and one in English, about what a tour of Busan would be like, with yours truly. Basically, Busan has so many untouched beautiful spots in the mountains that no traveler from Taiwan or further ever explores. There are also excellent local markets, where the true culture of Busan still lies. In between Gamcheon Culture Village and Haeundae Beach, there are a multitude of local neighborhoods and they are rarely, if ever explored by tourists from abroad. Lonely Planet voted Busan as the best city in Asia to travel to in 2019. However, there's gotta be more to this pearl then just Nampodong and Guang-An Beach, right? Yes, absolutely 100%, so that's where I come in to fill the void. I would like to (and am) offering free walking, hiking, foodie and market tours of Busan. Don't worry, I will also go to Gamcheon Culture Village and Haeundae Beach if that is what you'd like to do, too.
Why free? I'm exploring these places all the time anyways, so why not invite a few new friends along? I want to promote this beautiful city that I now finally call home.
Who am I? I'm a Canadian professor of English at Busan University of Foreign Studies, as well as a writer and editor for the Busan Beat (www.busanbeat.kr).

When can we go on tour? I work mornings at my university from Tuesday to Friday, so on weekdays, I can meet you at 1:30pm for a half day tour. From Saturday to Monday, I'm available for full day tours.
What happens on a tour? Well, we meet up.at a prearranged destination, and we'll grab a taxi, bus, subway or walk to our spots. Meals and coffee breaks will definitely be included in the itinerary, as we don't want to lose too much energy.
How are you going to pay for tours? I'm totally a volunteer, so any gratuity (tip) would be appreciated, but not expected. Meals, drinks and transportation will be covered by you; this is all I ask.
